Pamela Baxter (1979-82)
[Born Fallowfield, Manchester]
Mezzo-soprano Pamela Baxter was known as Pamela Searle when she joined the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company chorus in October 1979. Soon, as Pamela Baxter, she was understudying the principal mezzo-soprano parts, appearing frequently over the next two-and-a-half years as Edith in The Pirates of Penzance, Pitti-Sing in The Mikado, and Vittoria in The Gondoliers.
After the D'Oyly Carte closed in February 1982, she joined Kent Opera and continued her work in the Savoy operas playing in a variety of professional venues. In 1984 she appeared in The Ratepayers' Iolanthe in London's West End, and in 1987 in The Magic Flute with Cockpit Opera. In 1988 she joined the New D'Oyly Carte Company and New Sadler's Wells Opera, playing the part of Chloe in La Belle Helène.
